Our face is our first impression, and many begin down the path of surgical or non-surgical facial contouring to finally achieve the look they have in their mind’s eye.
Face & Body Contouring in Korea
Face and body contouring includes a wide range of surgical and non-surgical procedures designed to improve proportions, definition, and balance.
Some patients want a more defined jawline or slimmer facial shape. Others are concerned about stubborn abdominal fat, a poorly defined waist, disproportionate thighs or arms, or changes in body shape following weight loss, pregnancy, or aging.
The right approach depends on what is actually creating the unwanted contour — excess fat, loose skin, facial or skeletal structure, muscle laxity, volume distribution, or a combination of several factors.
What Is Face & Body Contouring?
Contouring is not one specific procedure. It is an individualized treatment approach based on the patient’s anatomy and desired result.
For the face, treatment may involve facial liposuction, double-chin liposuction, buccal fat reduction, fat grafting, facial implants, lifting procedures, or facial bone contouring.
Body contouring may include liposuction, 360-degree liposuction, tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, fat grafting, and other procedures designed to reshape particular areas of the body.
Non-surgical technologies may also be considered for patients with relatively mild concerns who do not require surgical correction.
The goal is not simply to make an area smaller. Successful contouring should take overall proportions into account and create natural transitions between different areas.
Face Contouring
Facial contouring can address concerns involving the jawline, cheeks, chin, lower face, and neck.
For patients with excess fat beneath the chin or along the lower face, facial liposuction may help create greater definition. If facial volume is uneven or deficient, fat grafting or other volume-restoring treatments may be considered.
In other cases, facial width or asymmetry is related primarily to the underlying bone structure rather than fat. Korean plastic surgery clinics also offer surgical facial contouring procedures such as cheekbone reduction, jaw reduction, and genioplasty for appropriately selected patients.
Before choosing a procedure, it is therefore important to determine whether the concern comes from fat, skin, muscle, soft tissue, or bone.
Body Contouring
Body contouring focuses on improving the shape and proportions of areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks, back, arms, hips, and thighs.
Liposuction is commonly used when localized fat is the main concern and skin elasticity is relatively good.
When significant loose skin is present, removing fat alone may not produce the desired result. Procedures such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift may be more appropriate because they can remove excess skin as well as reshape the area.
Several areas can sometimes be treated together to create a more harmonious overall contour.
Liposuction & 360° Body Contouring
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed surgical contouring procedures.
Rather than focusing only on the amount of fat removed, modern body contouring considers how neighboring areas connect with one another.
For example, abdominal liposuction may be combined with treatment of the waist, flanks, and back. This is often referred to as 360-degree liposuction when the torso is treated circumferentially.
The treatment plan should be based on individual anatomy, skin quality, body proportions, and surgical safety rather than attempting to remove the maximum possible amount of fat.
Combining Contouring Procedures
Many contour concerns involve more than one anatomical factor.
A patient may have excess abdominal fat together with loose skin, or fullness beneath the chin together with skin laxity and weak jawline definition.
For this reason, surgeons may recommend combining procedures when appropriate.
Examples can include liposuction with tummy tuck, body liposuction with fat transfer, facial liposuction with lifting procedures, or several connected liposuction areas treated during the same operation.
Not every procedure should be combined into one surgery. The extent of surgery, anesthesia time, medical history, amount of fat removal, and recovery requirements all need to be considered when developing a safe surgical plan.
Choosing the Right Contouring Procedure
There is no single face or body contouring procedure that is suitable for everyone.
A proper assessment should consider:
Location and amount of excess fat
Skin thickness and elasticity
Degree of loose or excess skin
Facial and skeletal proportions
Muscle laxity
Previous surgery and scars
Overall health and medical history
Desired degree of change
Photos can be useful for an initial assessment, but the final surgical plan may change after an in-person examination.
Face & Body Contouring in Korea
Korea offers a broad range of facial and body contouring procedures, from relatively localized liposuction to more extensive facial contouring and body reshaping surgery.
For international patients, choosing a clinic should involve more than comparing prices.
The surgeon’s experience with the specific procedure, anesthesia arrangements, surgical facility, preoperative assessment, postoperative care, and follow-up schedule are important considerations.
It is also important to plan enough time in Korea for the initial recovery and postoperative examinations before returning home.
